  • Dangers of Choosing The Wrong Company

In the event of major water damage to your property, most people correctly look for a professional water damage company to do the work. The good news is that there are numerous listings in every city from companies advertising water damage restoration. The bad news is that not all water restoration companies are created equal, and you need to choose wisely when it comes to who will be responsible for the restoration of your property.

The fact is that not everyone who advertises water damage restoration is qualified to do this sort of work. In some cases, you may call and not talk to an actual provider at all, but rather a “company” that turns out to be two guys in an office who secure the job, take your money, and then subcontract the work out to the lowest bidder. The person who gets the assignments may very well be someone with little or no disaster relief experience. Is this really the sort of process you want when selecting someone to work on your facility?

As of right now, there are no Federal regulations governing who can and cannot do this sort of work. The end result is that anyone can throw a mop and a shop-vac in the back of their car and announce that they are in the water damage restoration business.

Choosing the wrong company can have dire results:

    1) In all likelihood it will not solve your water damage problems.

    2) The damage to your facility can actually be made worse as a result.

    3) You repair costs could easily double or even triple before you  finally are able to find a qualified company to work on your property.

    4) Cause more business interruption and inconvenience for you.

  • Dehumidification

Excessive moisture can cause mold and indoor health concerns. Our advanced moisture detection equipment combined with company-owned dehumidification and drying equipment can remove moisture from within walls and ceiling cavities, allowing us to thoroughly dry all water-damaged areas, even in places you can’t see.

When you use our drying and dehumidification services, you can be certain that our technical expertise will get the job done the right way, saving your building from excess moisture and unnecessary expenses.

When determining the amount of dehumidification that is necessary, there are specific formulas which need to be calculated to properly dry a structure.  These calculations are mandatory in determining the best type, size and quantity of dehumidifers required for the project.

    Types of Dehumidifiers:

The most commonly used dehumidification tool employed while mitigating a water loss is the refrigerant dehumidifier. The industrial grade dehumidifier is designed to operate in cooler conditions than most homeowner units. It will operate at temperatures down to 45 degrees Fahrenheit, but should not be operated above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. For best operation, maintain temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. There are two types of refrigerant dehumidifiers:

Conventional Refrigerant Dehumidifiers (or “standard”) : This is older technology and less efficient. Commonly used by the smaller less experienced companies in the restoration industry because of the lower purchasing costs of the equipment.  These dehumidifers require higher electricity usage to operate.

Low Grain Refrigerant (LGR) Dehumidifiers: LGR dehumidifiers employ new technologies that enable them to remove higher levels of water at lower humidity and can ultimately dry to a lower moisture level than “standard” refrigerants. LGR’s are able to accomplish this using less electricity.

Desiccant Dehumidifier: Desiccant dehumidifiers employ a silica gel absorbent to remove moisture from the air. They have the ability to dry the air to a lower level than standard refrigerant or LGR dehumidifiers and are an effective tool when drying large facilities, hardwood floors, built-ins and cabinets, dense structural materials, plaster, brick, books, and documents. They are also useful when temperatures are below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Disaster Planning

One of the most important items a property owner or manager can have in place is a Disaster Preparedness Plan.  It’s not IF, but WHEN a major fire, flood or other disaster strikes.  Are you ready?  Or will you be scrambling to call some local unqualified carpet cleaner out of the phonebook?

The trouble is, many property managers and owners think the threat lies elsewhere, and couldn’t possibly happen in their back yard. Yet time and time again, from Nashville, TN to the Gulf Coast States to California to right here in New Mexico in 2006 when Hatch flooded, or the freeze in 2011 which affected most of New Mexico.  Disasters are an ever-present threat that can hit when least expected.

Williamson Restoration Inc can assist property managers and owners with developing a disaster response plan and initiating emergency response services. We offer technical guidance along with our 34 page “Disaster Planning Guide” to guide facility owners and managers through the disaster planning process.

  • Mold Remediation

Buildings with mold covered surfaces that measure more than ten square feet present an insidious health hazard that could seriously compromise the immune systems of those exposed to them. In order to be made safe, these buildings require the services of Williamson Restoration Inc who specializes in mold remediation. Mold remediation is the cleanup process for large areas of mold most often found in schools, government buildings and commercial buildings as well as apartment buildings.

Mold remediation is a specialized service that should be completed by a professional and not a typical contractor. The process of mold remediation differs from other types of remediation because there is a need for containment of the affected area. Because mold remediation is done on any size mold infestations, it can be challenging to locate the source of the moisture without the proper tools and equipment.

Williamson Restoration Inc always adheres to the strictest published standards and protocols for remediating mold.

  • Fire and Smoke Damage

Smoke can permeate walls and other surfaces and drift through air ducts, where it becomes trapped. If not professionally removed, smoke odor can reoccur. Soot is oily and easily stains carpets, draperies and other textiles. For this reason you must remove it before you attempt to clean or deodorize items. Even after cleaning, smoke odor may remain in clothing, upholstered furniture, carpets and draperies unless they are properly deodorized before cleaning. Fire, smoke, and soot can cause corrosive etching within 72 hours. Formica, chrome, porcelain and aluminum fixtures should be promptly cleaned.

  • Damage Re-construction

After a structure loss occurs, selecting just “any contractor” can cause more harm than good. Reconstruction of property damage versus regular general construction is different, providing daily challenges unique to the industry.
